Joan Perry founded and lead the first woman-owned municipal investment banking firm in the U.S. At times her firm owned $100million bonds which were sold to institutional buyers. Her clients were cities like the City of San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and the State of California. Her investment banking firm was the first female firm to be include in a municipal bond issue – and this was for the Philadelphia School District. Her firm was a bond underwriter for the White Sox Stadium in Chicago and the United Airlines terminal at O’Hare Airport. She traded Billions of dollars of bonds in the marketplace – and took the personal risk of market fluctuations in trading for her firm. And, they said a woman couldn’t do it! Joan’s experience spans 25 years in the bond and equity markets – and when she writes and speaks about money management, she has hands on experience. Joan is the author of the Random House book, A Girl Needs Cash, and has a new book coming out later this year. While her firm Take Charge Financial! actively manages money today in the marketplace for men and women – her passion is to teach and enable women to have strong financial legs. Her career began on Wall Street in the 80’s and moved to Silicon Valley in the 90’s, which is where she currently lives.

Joan Perry is a leading expert on money management, and the perspective of women and money. She has developed her expertise over twenty-five years as an Investment Banker working on Wall Street, Money Manager and Owner of a Securities Brokerage Firm.
As President of Take Charge Financial!, Joan initially founded of the first female-owned Municipal Investment Banking firm in the United States known as Perry Investments Inc. in 1985, and then this firm began retail and brokerage services to individuals in the mid-90s. She has in-depth trading and market experience from managing institutional and retail investment dollars in the securities markets, and throughout her career has managed billions of dollars in the bond, stock and options markets.
Joan combined her personal and professional background in her book A GIRL NEEDS CASH published by Random House in 2000 – a story of money in women’s lives and the transition to taking charge of it. She received her MBA from Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management and undergraduate degree from Denison University. She was the founding President of the Los Gatos Morning Rotary Club.
