JOAN PERRY
Author, Financial Coach, Speaker, Entrepreneur
Joan Perry’s expertise is women and money. Her national presence as a leading authority comes from twenty-five years as an investment banker, owner of a securities firm, major exposure in the financial markets, understanding of how women have experienced and managed money in our society, and a deeply personal look at her own relationship with cash and investments.
Perry, 58, combined her professional and personal background in her book A GIRL NEEDS CASH – a story of money in women’s lives and the transition of taking charge of it. In her book, written with Dolores Barclay, Perry debunks many of the myths women have about investing – that it’s not feminine, that a “White Knight” will step in to take care of money matters, or that they don’t have enough money or know-how to invest. Perry then offers strategies on how all women can create their own financial well-being.
“Men and women see money very differently,” says Perry – although a women’s viewpoint is not part of traditional financial information. Through her book and lectures, Perry speaks to the topic in a woman’s voice. “How we feel about money, how we deal with it and how it impacts our life is directly related to our overall well-being,” says Perry. A GIRL NEEDS CASH has received national acclaim, and USA Today calls it a “winner.”
Perry, is the President and founder of Take Charge Financial!, an investment firm located in the San Francisco Bay Area. The firm coaches men, women and children, of all income levels, to take charge of their financial lives and actively use wealth building strategies.
Perry distinguished herself in the early 80’s by starting the Nation’s first female Investment Banking firm in the Country that structured, owned and sold bonds for Municipal Issuers, Perry Investments Inc. Clients included the state of California and the City of Chicago, among others, for major municipal projects. The firm shouldered the risk in the financial markets for millions of dollars of bonds, which it owned and sold. This made Perry very unique as a woman who personally stepped out to experience the results of fluctuations in the financial markets.
Originally from the Midwest, Perry lives in Los Gatos, CA. She has an MBA from Vanderbilt University Owen School, and a BA from Denison University.
